With the success of their cafes, Coffee by Di Bella, in the Indian market, the premium coffee brand from Australia has now expanded their horizons by offering gourmet food at their outlets as well. At Coffee by Di Bella Exclusive, expect premium blend coffees as well as Mac & Cheese, Loaded Nachos, Cheese Stuffed Fried Chicken Burger or the Mushroom Cappuccino. One can also indulge in the Valencia Orange, Cranberry and Kale Salad, Chicken bowl for the keto dieters or the smoothie bowls for a quick healthy snack.

Claiming coffee authority

Talking about the idea behind Exclusives, Rahul Leekha, Director – Coffee By Di Bella, says, “We have a footprint of 20 stores across the city and 80% is repeat footfall. We had been pondering over the idea of a live kitchen for a while. We have done something similar in Thailand as well and the response was really good. Back in Australia also, we have some stores that have a live kitchen and they do well. So we got all the recipes from Australia. The idea was to match the food to a coffee palate, products that would go well either before or after coffee. Hence, the Exclusives.”

The first store opened in Malad, while the second started in Bandra. “The idea is to open around 10 Exclusive formats across the city,” says Rahul. Delhi and Bengaluru are next on their plan. Along with the Exclusive Cafés, they have also launched a new blend called the ‘Sydney blend’ which has hints of dark chocolate, vanilla and hazelnut. This blend is being served through a ‘Specialty Coffee Menu’ which includes new additions like the cold brews, aero press, French press, pour overs to name a few. “Our mission is to claim coffee authority in the country. India is still at a very nascent stage when it comes to coffee. Our trainers and baristas come down from Australia every six months and do a masterclass and try and educate our consumers as well. Coffee is the second most consumed beverage after water in the world. Gone are the days when coffee was only black and bitter. We have seen a growth of 20-25% in consumption of coffee at the same store. That's a good indicator of its popularity,” he says.

The food story

At the newly-opened Exclusive outlet in Bandra, we tried the Cheesy Mushroom and Spinach Scrambled Eggs (Rs 295), served on a fresh brioche bread. Mushroom and cheese make for a great flavour combo anyway, and along with spinach, this was one sumptuous dish. The Ham and Cheese Croissant (Rs 345) had a buttery soft croissant with a generous filling of pork ham and cheese.

A cold beverage was needed at this point and we ordered the Sea Salt Iced Americano (Rs 215). Served in a tall glass, the beverage, with its flavour of sea salt, instantly cooled us down. But we had saved the best for last. The creatively-named Mushroom Cappucino (Rs 245) was actually a soup that warmed out hearts with its comforting mushroom flavour. And though it wasn't breakfast time, we went ahead and ordered the Chia Berry Bowl (Rs 325). The fresh pomegranate, chia seeds and pumpkin seeds added the right crunch to the fruity berry Greek yoghurt. This was a bowl we could have polished off had we not been stuffed already. Their extensive waffle section will have to wait!
