Initially, none of us saw ourselves settling as a band from Meghalaya in Mumbai. People ask us a lot about why we’re based here now when we could’ve been home doing the same — the northeast being one of most western-influenced parts of India. Safe to say that we wanted to take it a step ahead knowing that we weren’t getting anywhere. Our music would just circulate in parts of northeast and wouldn’t go beyond, which was unfair because we were working so hard to put it out there for the world, if we may. We were faced with issues with where the band stood just because everyone else wasn’t together.

After the Hornbill experience, we had an eye-opening moment. We got to see such polished bands and we felt like nothing compared to how presentable and confident they all were! Fame The Band has been in existence since 2013; two years later, even bands that weren’t the ‘Best Potential Band’ were still better than us. The only thing to blame was our lack of experience. And that’s where the thought of ‘getting the band out of northeast’ started. It’s the biggest risk we’ve taken so far.

Then, there was the dilemma. Just beginning of last year, two of us were in Delhi, two in Mumbai. Is it too obvious why we ended up here? Everybody said it’s where everything happens and we believed them. But as expected, it hasn’t been easy especially when you’re not from around here, trying to fit in. Every day we wake up thinking — are we getting there? The process has been sluggish, but who knows, sooner or later it might pay off. We probably won’t find out unless we try. We don’t always get positivity off what we do but this phenomenon exists in everything. We’re confident enough to say we’re content.

So far, Mumbai has been a bunch of warm hugs and inspirational support. This place has been teaching us how to strive and tackle challenges. And we love how we push ourselves to get better. There are people who love what we do here and think it’s something fresh. There are critics who speak out of their years of experience. Some have said that being in a band won’t make it, that Bollywood has it all here. That may well be true but Mumbai is a stepping stone. Another five years or more, a lot of things are going to be stepping stones. Most of them are yet to find out about us. Just hoping they do because we have our debut album coming out by October. So stoked!
