Given our hectic schedules, most of us don’t get enough sleep. The new royal Meghan Markle is no stranger to this either. The mom-to-be has been attending back-to-back royal engagements since her nuptials with husband Prince Harry. And it seems she uses a cool make-up trick to ensure she’s looking fresh-faced all the time. At the recent Remembrance Service, make-up artists noticed that the Duchess had swapped her usual brown liner on her waterline for a more subtle nude. This is a clever way to disguise tired eyes and any redness in the area. The nude shade resembles the whiteness of the eyes and makes the peepers look wider and more awake.

Open up the eyes

Mascara is a quick way to open up eyes

Puffy eyes are at times unavoidable. A lack of sleep or too much of it. can cause your eyes to look swollen. But with a few simple make-up tricks, you can get rid of those issues. A white or light cream eyeshadow can be applied to the inner corner of your eyes. This will make you look instantly brighter. If you want to add subtle colours then sweep the shades up and out towards your side face. This will instantly lift the eye making you look more awake. To drag away the attention from under eye bags, curl your eyelashes. Use a mascara to fill in the lashes with feathery strokes. Brush them out and up for a natural finish look.

Use fresh, youthful hues

Stick to fresh colours like pinks and apricot

When someone is tired, the skin tends to look dull and saggy. Fresh orange juice mixed with rose water can be used as a rinse on the face. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then wash. Follow this up with icing the face, this closes the pores and tightens the skin too. A moisturiser can also be lightly massaged in. A nude kohl pencil or off-white works well for the waterline. Avoid a pure white as that can look stark and overdramatic. Wearing eyeliner above the eye works, do it thicker in the centre where the cornea is, as this makes the eyes look perkier. Follow it up with mascara on the upper and lower lashes. A flesh-toned pink and apricot eyeshadow can help freshen up the eye space. Stick to similar colours on the lips, nothing too intense or dark. A blush in apricot or orange adds a radiant touch. A highlighter can be applied on the apple of the cheeks and on the centre of eyelids that again opens up the eye. Finish off with a setting spray as this creates an illuminating effect. To look more awake, steer clear of black liner and dark lips. If opting for a red pout, go for a fresh hue rather than a deep burgundy shade that ages the face.

Conceal the tiredness

Wake up your skin with a mint facial mist

Nothing makes you feel as refreshed as a mint facial mist. It wakes you up inside-out. You can make this at home. Take the juice of some mint leaves. Add a few drops of rose water, little camphor and some astringent to it. Mix it well and spray away. Since the eyes show your tiredness first, opt for a concealer. It camouflages all the fatigue and gives a fresh and even skin tone. Use it under your eyes to conceal dark circles and lines. Follow it up with a double coat of mascara. Start with a thin layer first. Then take a tiny amount of powder on your fingertips and rub it over your eyelashes. Finish it off with a second thick coat of mascara.
