A resort situated in its own lagoon in the North Male Atoll in the Maldives has hosted global celebrities like George Clooney, Kate Moss, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and the late designer, Alexander McQueen, who have rejuvenated their souls in its azure environs.

But celebrity sighting is not what the resort is making waves for,
quite literally in this case — it’s the world’s first underwater spa, bang in the middle of the coral-reefed Indian Ocean that is sending rhythmic vibrations across to the wanderlust luxe traveler, me included. Mumbai life desperately calls for ‘alone-time’ ever so often and the pampering was calling out to my jangled, gossip-weary self.

I made my way down the wooden stairwell several feet under into the spa area, separated from the water and the marine life by a thick glass that the fishes came up to check out humans in their au naturel state.

Crystal therapy is the signature treatment that uses hand pressed coconut oil, lime mineral poultice and island wood. The therapist laughed discreetly when I mentioned that I might have inadvertently flashed the fishes and assorted ocean inhabitants during my session of pure bliss and calm! I am quite sure though that they mustn’t have minded taking a peek at the bare torsos of the gorgeous George Clooney and Tom Cruise during their time! It’s lovely watching the water world go by in its myriad forms just inches away from you.

I also sampled spa cuisine at the organic food restaurant. Beetroot soup and yellow fin tuna sashimi never tasted so good! A waking dream is what the resort translates into English, but the spa experience is more of a dreamy one!
