Writer and stand up comic Marina Shifrin recently quit her job at a news organisation that produces news videos. So what's the big deal about that, you might ask? Well, it's how she tendered her resignation, which then went viral all over the Internet as the most awesome resignation ever.
The YouTube video, titled 'An interpretive Dance For My Boss,' set to Kanye West's 'Gone', already boasts of over 4,000,000 views.
As the title suggests, the video shows her dance out her resignation, while a text trail at the bottom gives reasons for her quitting. In it, she says, “It's 4:30pm and I'm at work... for almost two years I have sacrificed my relationships, time and energy for this job.”
She further narrates, dancing, “But my boss only cares about quantity, and how many views each video gets.. So I figured I would make one video for my own to focus on the content instead on the views." (Oh girl, but you now have even the views!)
In the video description she explained, “I have put my entire life into this job, but my boss only cares about quantity, how fast we write and how many views each video gets. I believe it's more important to focus on the quality of the content. When you learn to improve this, the views will come. Here is a little video I made explaining my feelings.”
So here it is, for your viewing pleasure:
So, Shifrin's former employers Next Media Animation, responded to her public resignation with a video of their own! In it they not only wish her well but also announced the job opening for the available vacancy. Watch it here:
UPDATE 2: The "viral video resignation" saga didn't end there. Following her sudden rise to fame, Shifrin was invited on Queen Latifah's talk show yesterday, where to her much surprise, she was offered a job as a digital content producer for Latifah's website.
While she did accept the offer with an excited quip, "Are your kidding me? Yeah, I'm interested!" it remains to be known if the offer will materialise.
