There’s something about Bangalore that draws the international chains to it. They have an instant crowd, considering the city has a rather big number of well-travelled professionals. Catering to the needs of the same clientele, Manchester United Restaurant & Bar has opened shop in the city. With gigantic screens dedicated just to screen sporting fixtures, it makes for a must-visit, since their food and cocktails are quite good too.

This is what makes this place so popular that even Monday evenings, like the one I went on, see full reservations. I seated myself at such a place that I had a great view of the gigantic screen inside. And we decided to beat those Monday blues with some of their signature cocktails. While my friend chose to go for their all time best mix called Red Devil, I, for the pure reason that I’m not a Man Utd football team fan, took their blue option called Twistin & Turnin.

Both these lethal mixes had a lot of white spirits, which were led by tequila. While they seemed potent in nature, both were smooth and didn’t come on too strong. The perfect kind of drinks to get drunk on without feeling sick. Both these drinks, the most expensive cocktails on the menu, were served in huge cocktail glasses. So it definitely is worth every rupee you’ve spent on it.
We ordered two platters, one vegetarian and the other non-vegetarian. My vegetarian friend loved her food. The Cheese Jalapeno Poppers and the Onion Rings were simply perfect. The fries we’d ordered for too were good. They had garlic salt sprinkled on them, giving a different flavour. I loved the Beer Batter Fried Fish and the cola glazed Chicken Wings from my non-vegetarian platter. We kept chomping on the food as we waited for the next round of drinks.

My next drink was called the Samba Samba; this Brazilian inspired drink had cachaca as the base liquor, was very tropical and lovely. My friend ordered for a drink named Transfer Request, a blue curacao-based drink again. This was quite smooth too and not that heady as the last two drinks.

We watched some sports on television, which included repeat telecasts of some of the latest wins of the team. The place somehow seemed to draw a lot of expatriate crowd again. The lounge has a really big smoking section too, where you have interesting seats that face the gigantic screen. The outdoor section does have a speaker and thus you get to hear all the cool tracks. For my sign off, I ordered for a kiwi fruit martini. Fresh kiwi pulp with vodka, this drink is quite the fruit lovers’ delight.

Manchester United Bar is the kind of place you want to go with your besties and have a blast. You don’t really wanna have your cosy dates though. If you’re in Bangalore and love to be part of a good charged up crowd, this place is a must visit.
