What are your make-up essentials?

I use kajal, ghee and onions. (laughs)

Your skincare routine
I usually eat at KFC, and then I chase it with green tea, so everything is sorted afterwards. (smiles). When I break out, then I use a really drying, lime-based soap. Lately, I’ve started using Egyptian magic cream — it’s like glorified Vaseline. I also like Benefit’s moisturising cream.

Do you do your own make-up?
Yeah I do and it’s disastrous. My daily routine is really thick eyeliner and then kajal, and a little bit of lip stain. If I decide to do my own make-up like contouring, I’ll just look like a clown, it won’t reach the contouring stage.

Do you follow the latest beauty trends?
I follow a lot of Peachy Queen and all that on Instagram so I notice what they do, but I don’t have the patience to do it. The most I do is foundation and a little stain.

What do you think is sexy, beauty-wise?
Cheekbones. Whatever you don’t have, you think that is sexy, so cheekbones are super sexy.

Any beauty idols growing up?
My naani who passed away recently at 96 always had glowing skin. She used only one thing all her life — Moti soap. She never used anything else on her face. At the most, she must’ve done the besan doodh routine. I ran away from make-up as a kid, we were told zara bhi make-up lagaenge to skin kharab ho jayega. I didn’t touch foundation till I was 19.

What are some tips you’ve taken from beauty artists and use daily?
To remove your make-up with coconut oil. My skin is very sensitive and most make-up remover wipes are abrasive. I think, the harsher your make-up, the milder your remover should be.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve tried in the name of beauty?
Make-up didi — she is a travesty. (laughs) When I was seven, I used a Lakme lipstick in toasted coffee shade when my mother wasn’t at home. It was like mitti brown in colour, it was horrendous and I had a boy cut and a unibrow, so it was a disaster. In college, I would use a foundation that was two shades lighter than my skin tone. When I see those pictures, I look like a ghost.

Do you have a signature fragrance?
Vanitas by Versace and Narciso Rodriguez.

Any home remedies that you use for your skin or hair?
If I get really patchy skin, I use malai and honey. My hair is hopeless. Lately I’ve started using Kama’s Kesini powder as I’ve been told to get rid of sulfates. My hair is very limp, luckily it’s curly so it gives the illusion of volume.

What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever received?
Moisturise your face at night because dry skin ages faster.
