Designer Maheka Mirpuri who has preferred to display her collections solo in private showings, is now returning to the Lakme Fashion Week this month after  almost a decade-long gap. She made  an exception this time because it’s for a cause — Save Our Tiger! This year, a few renowned designers will create special garments around this theme, to be sold, the proceeds of which will go to a charity to support the cause. Maheka says,

“The fact that the number of tigers is fast dwindling in our country deeply concerns me. In fact, it should concern all of us, because it means we are ruining our ecosystem. People have to act now, before it is too late. It is imperative that voices that can be heard, people who can make a difference, support such a cause to create a far reaching impact.”

The designer will be showcasing her creations on fabrics that are hand-painted with tiger prints. “It’s a Western line — consisting of a tiger-printed jumpsuit, a printed corseted gown — the clothes reflecting the concept in a subtle way but at the same time being very wearable. I’m using fabrics like chantilly lace and georgette. I’ve also designed cuffs with a tiger face in gold and cocktail rings with a similar concept,” she adds.
