Slick wet hair
The wet hair look was a prominent feature of various shows. Models strutted with slick strands that appeared to be almost glued to their heads for designers Prabal Gurung, Yigal Azrouel and Theyskens’ Theory. Make-up artist Vipul Bhagat says this hair do is ideal as it doesn’t take away from the clothes. “The slicked back look involves the use of a lot of gel and shine or glitter hairspray. It looks great on most women but does require the use of a lot of products, so make sure you shampoo and condition thoroughly after trying the style.”
Experiment with the eyes
White eyeliner and shadow was seen for designers Kate Spade and Tibi, shimmery shadow for Jason Wu, the cat eyeliner trend also continues and smoky eyes as seen in Hervé Leger. “The smoky eye is a great way to glam up your look and is now being sported with bold lips. It’s quite easy to copy at home, all one needs is to smudge a black kohl pencil with a frosty eye shadow,” says Clint.
Bold lips especially orange
Tangy pops of orange graced the runways of Rag & Bone, Creatures of the Wind and Suno both on lips and tips. The citrus colour is said to be the go-to hue next season. Make-up expert Clint Fernandes agrees. “This can be a slightly tricky colour for the pout as it can look jarring on dusky women if the shade is not right. Indians can adapt this style by opting for more transclucent deeper, matte colours. In fact, it can add a lovely fresh look to the face,” says he.
Fresh flushed skin
While eyes and lips often popped colour, the face remained flawless, glowing and natural-in-appearance in many shows including Donna Karan, Thakoon and Oscar de la Renta. “Simplicity works better. This look gives a very clean, neat and pretty flushed look that can be replicated with the right liquid foundation and primer. Even brides today are asking for a similar less made-up look,” says Vipul.
Designs on nails
Interesting nail art and polish combinations were spotted on the runways that complemented each collection. The half-moon manicure was seen at Lela Rose and Jenni Kayne’s shows, stripes and floral art at Emerson, while Desigual had a reverse half-moon manicure for the models. “Nail art will continue to be a huge trend in 2014. With more cosmetic brands launching nail art pens and stickers, the trend is becoming more user- friendly,” says Clint.
Hair stickers at Honor
At the Honor show, the prominent ponytail was seen with a difference. Models sported tiny floral hair stickers intertwined with their strands adding a pretty boho touch.
