As winter arrives, the days turn shorter and nights colder, the weather calls for layering up in order to stay warm. While winter clothing has already hit the stores, we are still struggling to find a balance between looking good and keeping ourselves warm. AFTERhrs spoke to city-based bloggers and stylists to find out the winter-wear trends this season.

Play with your look. “Looking stylish during winters can sometimes be difficult. You can wear a turtleneck sweater and pair it with a plain or checked mini skirt; to keep yourself warm, you can wear woollen leggings. Wear long boots and add a scarf to complete your look. This combination not only looks stylish but also keeps you cosy. This is my favourite winter look because it’s chic and versatile,” says Ashmita Gautam, a fashion blogger from Jaipur.

Capes can be quite the trend this winter season, believes Ayisha Agarwal, fashion blogger. “I think printed woollen capes are perfect for the weather. I have always been a fan of this cover-up look. There are a number of options in capes — in different prints, fabrics and colours. You can spice up your look a bit by pairing them with high-waisted skinny jeans, boots, and you can also tuck in your cape with a broad belt. Pair them with a miniskirt and tights,” she shares.

Winters are not sad and dull anymore. “Winters are full of glitz and glamour and you can celebrate the weather with different trends dying to be worn. The season fuels my sensibilities towards different styles — layering, if you want to play on with volume; fur, to go for a chic yet classic look; fringing for a refreshing look; opt for flowing gowns for feminine grace. Also trending this season are classic designs, cafes, printed scarfs, party suits and frills,” asserts Aparna Joshi, stylist and designer, brand Apash.

For men’s winter fashion, another blogger from the Pink City, Ranawat suggests layering of pieces. “The handsome way is to layer pieces of various fabrics to keep yourself warm without the bulk — like a cashmere sweater or a wool coat. When it comes to outerwear, the options are endless, from pea coats to shearling jackets and, of course, the classic Trench-Coat. Investing in a solid topper is imperative, as it will be the finishing touch to your look,” he shares.
