Fashion-forward celebrities like model Gigi Hadid, actress Courtney Cox and fashion muse Alexa Chung are all jarfing fans. It’s a new craze that sees women trading their scarfs for the warmth of jumpers around their neck. Apart from being a practical trend, it also helps with layering your outfit. It first found its way to the streets of Paris and New York in September and is slowly trickling down to the celeb world, who seem to have gone all out and embraced it. Here’s more on it.

A MINIMAL LOOK

Giving casual dressing a modern, minimal look, jarfing has already been spotted on influencers like Anna Borisnova, fashionista Kate Davidson Hudson and even actress Sharon Stone. Considering winter is around the corner, we can clearly get on board with this fad that gives you a chance to showcase your knitwear.

PERFECT FOR COOLER CLIMES

Designer Arpita Mehta feels jarfing is a style statement, which adds a fun element to your outfit making it look dressy. And if you think about it, that makes sense. Especially when travelling, you may not always want to lug around your jumper, tying it around your neck takes care of that.

Arpita Mehta goes on to add, “Fashion has seen many strange comebacks from the past. The so-called ‘jarfing’ trend was a part of Old School Fashion. Many of the celebrities have been styling their jumpers from the early ’80s, but only recently has it been given a name. It’s great for an informal lunch, and can be a cool trend this upcoming winter vacation season. I feel Deepika Padukone can pull it off effortlessly.” The trick according to Arpita is to opt for a light sweatshirt and wrap it around your neck, not too close and definitely not too loose.

MAKES FOR A COOL AIRPORT LOOK

Designer Rhea Pillai Rastogi believes jarfing is a cool and contemporary take on how to wear a jacket when not in use. It is definitely a street style that makes for a cool airport look. She explains, “The trend does help with the onset of the winter season. If you feel too hot you can wear it around your neck, but if you feel cold, you can always wear the jumper for its original utility.” Alia Bhatt, Ananya Panday and Janhvi Kapoor are her picks to sport this new trend. She recommends pairing a sleek slip under the jarf, which can be a cool way to style the look and accessorising it with a bag is also essential.
