With the audience cheering for new-age cinema and television formats, there are more real and relateable stories, even in the world of gastronomy. Zee Khana Khazana’s new show The Urban Cooking Show that went on air last week has no fancy, shining clean tables, no bowls with prepped up ingredients, and no host wearing a chef’s coat, showing off his skills with the knife that you can’t even dare to try at home.

Hosted by Chef Sabyasachi Gorai, The Urban Cooking Show is perhaps India’s answer to Jamie’s 30-Minute Meals. Chef Sabya says it’s all about cooking at home. “With my cup of coffee, I go to my fridge, and fish out the ingredients to make a meal for the day. I am not wearing my chef’s coat, but clothes that I’d wear at home, and there’s no prep work. I chop what I need then and there.”

The show’s setting is as real as it gets, including the mess we’d have on our kitchen table when we cook at home.

The show aims at portraying cooking as a stress buster, and Chef Sabya gets the point across.
Catch the show on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) at 8.30 pm, with repeats on Monday to Friday at 10 pm.
