Since people all over the world have started to become more interested in making better food choices for themselves, "organic" has become a buzz word both in conversation and on the Internet. Most people have now come to the conclusion that they prefer organic if they can afford it because they think it is healthier for them and better for the planet.

In Organic We Trust takes a deeper look into the $30 billion organic industry, consulting experts including Dr. Marion Nestle, NYU Professor of Nutrition and Tim LaSalle, former Rodale Institute CEO to really find out what is really going on.

What the documentary really excels at is, showing the people how "organic-certified" is like any other system and how it can be manipulated to be used as a marketing strategy. The documentary also highlights how the philosophy behind organic farming was founded by people that believed in mimicking nature's patterns of growing food in a way that's best for the environment and human health.
In Organic We Trust shows viewers how the USDA's certification process and large corporations have compromised this philosophy.

The film also sheds light on how you can make the best health choices for yourself in terms of food without becoming overly dependent on a system that could be manipulated for profit. The documentary shows grassroots solutions including farmer's markets, school gardens, and urban farming which solve other food related issues such as the overall quality of our food because of the distance between the producer and the consumer. Viewers are made to think about things like if processed food or fruits and vegetables flown halfway across the world could truly be organic.

I would recommend this film to anybody who wants to learn more about this subject as it provides a lot of eye-opening information in a very easy to absorb way. The only thing to keep in mind though is, while the documentary does mention that for something to be certified organic it cannot use irradiation, sewage sludge or genetic modification, it doesn't go into sufficient depth to explain these topics and their impact on why people choose organic food. So it would be preferable if you used this documentary as a great place to start on the subject and then finally make your future health decisions after exploring the topic in more detail especially the topics that were not covered in enough depth.

Something that filmmaker R. Kiplin Pastor said really stuck with me which is "Food connects every socioeconomic, political, and environmental issue with something we all do daily, eat". This thought process really translates into the great documentary that is, In Organic We Trust.
