With over nine million views on YouTube, Shyamoli Sanghi’s single, Tu Naa Aaya, has managed to make viewers sit up and take notice of the 19-year-old singer.
Currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Philosophy at Stanford University, the youngster is on a nine-month break to pursue music and explore her opportunities in the industry. Trained in Hindustani Classical music since she was six years old, Shyamoli is also proficient in playing the piano and tabla from a young age. She tells us more about the song...
Tu Naa Aaya, composed by Ravi Singhal, is a soulful, romantic song that talks about the power of the unfading memories of one’s first love. The video is from the perspective of a girl who is missing the boy who loved her in college, after realising that her seemingly fulfilled dreams are empty without him. After we created the song, we were lucky that Zee Music Company liked it enough to release it on their platform.
I have always wanted to be a playback singer and that is still my final aim. I just feel that since I’m still a little younger than most playback singers today, and my voice is still developing, the first step that I wanted to take was to create music that I love in order to gain exposure to recording and learn a lot of lessons for future playback singing opportunities. Thus I don’t feel that it is a risk, but actually a stepping stone to being a playback singer.
