‘I am an owner’

Sheetal Mafatlal may have hit a rough patch in the last few years, but the dust seems to be settling now. The glamazon has put the past behind and moved on in life. The daughter of the late Manhar Bhagat of Nirlon Ltd grew up in a beautiful house in Pali Hill and married her childhood sweetheart — Atulya Mafatlal. Little did she know that the coming years will be full of pain and agony.

Yesterday, a tabloid reported that she barged into her Pali Hill bungalow, which is actually owned by her. She sets the record straight, “I was born and brought up here. I am an owner. And when I’m the owner, I don’t need to ‘barge into’ the house, as has been falsely reported in a tabloid. My grandfather acquired the property in the ‘50s and I have lived here all my life. My sister Poonam and I are equal owners. It’s been my haven all my life and I have happy childhood memories of the house. The house is a memory of my late father, who did it up beautifully.”

She’s deeply disturbed by the spate of false stories in the press and hopes that media does fact-checking before printing false information.

She says, “It’s unfortunate that certain tabloids misrepresent the facts just for sensationalism.” Sheetal clarifies that she is not involved in anyway with her sister Poonam’s divorce. She says, “I sincerely hope that the couple reach an amicable settlement.”

The Nirlon heiress was dragged into the Mafatlal family dispute, which had nothing to do with her. By now it’s been established that she was the victim of Ajay Mafatlal’s (Aparna Mafatlal, who underwent a sex change) fantasy of trying to claim inheritance to the Yogendra Mafatlal estate. Ajay and his associates started a smear campaign using Sheetal’s public profile and social recognition. However, things are settled after Ajay’s unfortunate death.
