"Lately Lisa Hayden and Gauri Khan have perfectly rocked this trend in a chic way," observes designer Swapnil Shinde. Internationally, Spring Summer runways at Emilio Pucci, House of Holland, Chloe and Roberto Cavalli have seen crochet in a major way. While Cavalli paired a denim shirt with a long crochet skirt, Pucci showed a fringed poncho version and House of Holland showcased it in multi-hued form pairing it with a denim applique shirt. Chloe on the other hand did an eyelet version. Let's speak to our style arbiters about new ways to style it.

A day look by far
Stylist Allia Al Rufai suggests, "A crochet poncho goes very well with 70s styled pants (not really a bell bottoms but slimmer cut flared pants). However, go for this if you are tall. If it's just a top or shirt wear it with Roman sandals or gladiators. A crochet is by far a day time look unless it's a fitted evening version seen at Pucci a few seasons ago. Crochet shorts are really nice - team it with a shirt or tee. A crochet kaftan works well for a cruise. Throw over your swimsuit - works wonderfully for a summer holiday."

Dress it up or down
Designer Nimish Shah of Shift says, "Crochet is a big summer trend with the likes of Chloe and Marc Jacobs using it in a major way. When teamed with slips and soft chiffon, it has a more appealing and refined look. However, pair it with distressed denim for a dressed down version,"

Swapnil adds, "Both flirty, fun looks in relaxed and slim fits are in, which you can pair with anything. From boho to sophisticate, sultry to retro - all will look hot using crochet."

A timeless art
Designer Shruti Sancheti who used crochet in her LFW line says, "Crochet is very feminine, pretty and dainty but also a timeless art and one can wear it fully or partly depending on one's personality but I feel summer mul tunics with crochet hemlines and interlacing look really feminine and dainty. Crochet throws, boleros and constructed jackets look edgy and crochet midi skirt with a mini lining looks really cool, along with a crochet pea skirt."

Works as an accessory too
Shruti adds, "If one does not want to wear too much of it, use it as accessories like neck piece or an interesting bag to add the feminine yet boho look."

Designer Farah Sanjana says, "A crochet fringed kaftan with a white vest and denim shorts are perfect for a sun kissed afternoon luncheon. A pastel floor length crochet slip dress is a perfect option for an evening out where one can team it with gold gladiators or embellished slippers with a bejewelled sling bag."
