Athleisure is one word that has been doing the rounds for the last few seasons. The very mention of it brings to mind high-top sporty trainers, baseball caps and varsity jackets. This party season, sportswear gets a luxe upgrade as it nonchalantly flirts with sequinned and holographic separates. Throw on your souvenir bomber jacket over an LBD and complete your look with a pair of trainers and you’re good to go. Or team your pantsuit with a pair of sneakers and you’re ready to party.

It’s perfectly okay to wear your yoga pants outside the gym! From Bella Hadid to Kendall Jenner — style influencers are clashing their gym pieces with party ensembles. Team a T-shirt over a sports bra and finish your look with a pair of sporty jeggings and heels. Or club your gym crop top with a statement bomber and add a leather mini and embellished sneakers. Just check out our stars getting snapped at the airport, it’s easy to understand how gym essentials are making their presence felt like never before. Anushka Sharma, Alia Bhatt and Malaika Arora are clearly the pin-up sensations, who have combined party and sporty dressing like a lethal cocktail. This trend can also be         attributed to the fact that sportswear has gone unapologetically polished. From Stella McCartney’s pullover sweatshirts to ZARA’s gilded sneakers, it’s time to mix it up like a pro.

Glam meets comfort

Designer Nachiket Barve shares his take on the ‘party-meets-sporty’ trend, “Athleisure mixed with evening is a great trend and it’s about time that people combined comfort with style. It should not seem as if you’ve headed straight to a party out of the gym because that could look sloppy. It’s important that you give a glamorous twist to the overall look.”

He also gives some tips on how to carry it off with elan. “You can opt for satin track pants or silk jerseys with rhinestone buttons, trousers with a slouchy look paired with a statement jacket, crop tops and palazzo pants, a black dress with sneakers along with a cross body bag, etc,” adds Nachiket.

Invest in a bomber

The sporty bomber jacket has re-emerged as the ‘it’ jacket silhouette for this party season. Designer Aniket Satam suggests, “Girls can opt for one in shimmery black or rose gold. Team the shimmery black one with an LBD or a simple black tank and denims which allows you to dance and stay warm at the same time. Rose gold can easily add a quick glamourous cred to any lace dress preferably in pastels or white. Boys should pick a souvenir jacket in contrasting colours and team it with a pair of ripped jeans. A pair of grey joggers set with metallic gold shoes and a quirky holographic cap along with a pair of reflectors will announce the arrival of the new cool.”

Stylist Isha Bhansali seconds that. “For boys, I’d suggest a premium quality leather bomber. Massimo Dutti has some good options. Club it with a nifty slim silk or knitted tie. I am not up for too much shine on boys, maybe a metallic bomber or a pair of silver or studded sneakers. Girls can opt for sequinned bombers, shiny sneakers and a pair of tailored shorts.”
