Age, as they say, is merely a number, but one’s got to make certain edits in one’s closet as one makes this remarkable transition from the hip 20s to the grownup 30s. Some may argue that 30s are the new 20s but this metamorphosis has more to do with one’s personality than with one’s body size and clothing. Thirties means a great dream job, financial independent and also embracing a bit of comfort when it comes to one’s sartorial picks. We get the experts to comment...

QUALITY OVER QUANTITY

Stylist Aastha Sharma says, “Twenties are about a lot of fun, experimenting with off-the-wall looks and also trying to understand your body type. The moment you turn 30 that major switch happens and you tend to have a better understanding of what works for you and you don’t want to waste time while shopping and invest in more quality brands. One looks at inculcating solid pieces in one’s closet which will stay with you for long. All in all it’s about quality over quantity.”

She adds, “One needs comfortable shoes because one doesn’t want to compromise on comfort since it’s about juggling work commitments and social engagements.”

DON’T BE A FASHION VICTIM

Stylist Eshaa Amiin suggests, “Be comfortable and follow what’s in trend. Don’t be a fashion victim and understand your body type and what silhouettes work on you. Accessorise smartly as the accessories can take any ensemble several notches up.”

MIX HIGH STREET AND HIGH-END

Azmina Rahimtoola, store owner, Atosa, whose daughter Tanisha is turning 29, says, “At 30, girls experiment with different styles — whether it’s classic or boho. In their 20s they are a bit restricted in terms of brands and what suits them but as their personality opens up, they tend to get more experimental. I often observe that in their 20s, they avoid boho and prefer fitted silhouettes. I feel even in your 30s, if you have a good body, you can still wear denim cut-offs. While 20s are about more budget buys, 30s are more designer-centric since one is more financially independent.”
