The Indian thing
There’s nothing more ‘Indian’ than binging on food. Many restaurants in the city are going all out to create some special spreads for the Independence Day. If you want to travel across the length and breadth of India gastronomically, then you’ve got some good options for you. The Raj Pavilion at ITC Windsor is celebrating Independence Day with the Freedom Brunch, with special emphasis on the various regional cuisines of the country.
Meanwhile, at Kahwa, The Zuri Whitefield, today, you can again tuck into a gala spread as their Independence Day festival concludes with a Pan-Indian buffet. The menu will include everything, right from the coastal fare to the rich Mughlai treats and the favourite Bengali desserts. Similarly, the Royal Orchid Ramada is hosting a special lunch called Journey Through India, which will have a similar spread offering something for everyone. Mercure Homestead in Koramangala too offers a similar spread, with treats from various corners of the country.
The Freedom Brunch at Raj Pavilion is priced at Rs1,250 plus taxes without alcohol, Rs1,750 plus taxes with unlimited sparkling wine and Rs2,250 plus taxes with unlimited champagne. At The Zuri Whitefield, it is priced at Rs825 per head. The spread at Royal Orchid is priced at Rs375 taxes for adults and Rs300 for children. Mercure Homestead has priced its spread at Rs650 per person.

The American way

‘Why should only Americans celebrate Independence Day with a barbecue’, question the folks at Olive Beach. They have a special barbecue brunch, featuring chicken skewers roasted on the spit, meat straight off the grill and kebabs and accompanying them will be the signature Olive cocktails that will keep you in high spirits right through the afternoon, literally. The brunch is priced at Rs850 plus taxes without alcohol and Rs1,450 plus taxes with alcohol.

Tricolour fiesta
Sometimes, it’s not so much the flavour or the taste but the celebration of the day itself. Urban Solace, the hotspot off Ulsoor Lake on Annaswamy Mudaliar Road, is all set to foster those feelings of patriotism by transforming into hues of saffron, white and green just for the special day. There will also be a special offer on the favourite items throughout the day. The wine sangrias and the chicken wings will have a buy one get one free offer on them.

Get musical
Sonido Musicals presents the Sonido Jam Room at Jain International Residential School. A four hour non-stop pulsating musical event reverberating through the night, the event will witness known bands and some fresh talent from the city coming together to commemorate the freedom of music. From Distortion Culture, a progressive rock band that has been in the music world for the last couple of years, to fresh sounding bands like Orbitual, Errorz, Blak & Wayt, Defyd and several others, the event is a healthy fix of the old and the new and includes genres that range from classic rock to pop to fusion to metal.
