The famous Mysore Dasara festival is held each in Mysore. Earlier, the festival was planned from October 14 to October 23 but it will now conclude on October 22 itself. Astrologers have reportedly informed officials that 'Dashami' ends on the early hours of October 23 and it would be better to conclude the festival before 'Dashami' ends states a Deccan Herald report.

Mysore Dasara is the "Nadahabba" or a state festival of Karnataka during 'Navaratri' and is celebrated with a lot of pomp, spectacle and joy in Mysore. The Dasara festivities here have a long history and tradition of more than 400 years.
Programme:
Oct 13: Inauguration at Chamundi Hills
Oct 14 - Oct 21: Cultural programs at palace premises, Jagan Mohan Palace, Kalamandir, etc.
Oct 21: Hungarian dance troupe to perform at palace grounds.
Oct 22: Ayudha Puja and Cultural Programme; Mysore Dasara Procession - Jamboo Savari (elephant procession) where main attraction of this procession is the idol of the Goddess Chamundeshwari that sits on top of an elephant; Torchlight parade at grounds at Bannimantap.
On October 22, the traditional Nandi Puja will be offered between 1.10 pm and 1.25 pm. Post that, the floral tributes to the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari placed in the Golden Howdah on top of the elephant will be offered between 3:12 pm and 3:30 pm. Thus begins the 'Jamboo savari'.
