For those who find the rainbow hair colour trend a bit overwhelming, there's a more versatile way to get in with the crowd. Denim coloured hair has been trending as a cool way to add some hue to your locks. The perfect blend of blues, greys and even shades of white and purple, this is a fun way to replicate your favourite denim washes.

Get summer ready

Monaz Cooper, hair expert and owner, Kamal's Unisex Salon says summer usually calls for funky colours. "With regards to hair colour, a lot of experimentation takes place with blue. The extended version of blue can be a deep midnight blue or a faded greyish blue. Besides being a trend internationally, in India the recent T20 World Cup has had a huge influence on youngsters wanting to sport this shade. The easiest way to replicate it is through temporary hair chalk colour which is quick in terms of time and process. The result of blue on natural dark Indian hair looks very different than its application on lighter shades of hair. It does not always suit all hair textures. Also, such a colour can fade off in a few washes. Hence to enhance sustainability it is important to have a supporting colour before achieving the desired blue. More importantly, to keep the colour fresh a regular touch up every three to four weeks is recommended."

Enhance your face

Move over denim jeans and jackets, denim hair has officially arrived says Amyn Manji, beauty expert. "It actually can look really pretty, think ombre but with greys and blues — you might be able to pull this one off by using different shades of grey and blue hair dyes and washing them out a few times for that faded denim-esque effect. When considering a hair colour change you really want a colour that will enhance the rest of your facial features and skin tone rather than detract or overwhelm your face. From faded, light-blue locks to classic cerulean cuts and darker indigo rinses, the denim-hair possibilities are pretty much endless. So, no matter which wash you go with, you'll be sure to find a style of denim that fits you perfectly. Now men are navigating the look too. Everyone wants to stand out with their hair colour," he adds.

Denim tones quite popular

Najeeb Ur Rehman, head professional partnership services, Schwarzkopf Professional, Henkel Beauty Care, India says denims are usually considered to be casual yet stylish. "With colours such as blue (which is also called Ash, as per colour-world terminology), grey and white, you can mix up the colours to go for shades that depend on your mood. Since, these colours are semi-permanent and come off easily after a couple of washes, these tones are quite popular now. On whites as well, it neutralises unwanted yellow pigments. On darker hair (including salt and pepper), one needs to pre-lighten the hair to a level of the lightest blonde, where yellow begins to fade. Apply blue concentrate with an extremely light base. It is advisable to apply the blue colour in chunks and use it as a majorly graduated colour (which includes sides and nape regions) and not on the top crown layer."

Looks cool and classy

Aditi Vyas, style director and educator, BBLUNT feels silver, grey and blue are the colour trends quite on-fleek at the moment. "Hairdressers all over the world are really enjoying working with these cool colours. Black is used usually on the mid lengths and ends to make the contrast more striking or at the roots to give it the illusion of melt. Another colour trend to watch out for is Blue Black, big for the festive season. BBLUNT has it's very own range of non-committal temporary hair colours in Blue Velvet, Emerald Green even Blush Pink among many other variants. They're as easy as spray on and wash off! Even more, it looks great on both - men and women. In fact, it was a trend that originally did rounds with men's hair first. If done right, it can look both extremely cool and classy.People with naturally long, dark hair should do it in parts, more like peek-a-boo or just one section of your hair to show off. However people with lighter, finer and shorter hair can go for a global look with these colours."
