Television never had it better, from sci-fi to period dramas to mysterious happenings, it's all unraveling on the small screen giving you insights into very complex situations and events that have or can impact our lives in the near future. We take a look at some of these shows that have not only grabbed eyeballs for their unique content but have turned the concept of mindless TV upside down with its content.

Fringe
This American sci-fi tv series looks at the idea of a parallel universe that mirrors the primary one. Investigations focus on fringe science - a result of experiments gone wrong to the possibility of a collision of the two parallel universes.
The insight you take back: If you want to find the truth, you have to open your mind to possibilities and the idea that the impossible could be possible. Your quest for truth cannot be blinkered by worldly views and prejudices, it's only when you look at things with an unbiased and fresh perspective, is when you truly find the truth.

Game of Thrones
The battle of thrones has mesmerised television audiences across the world with its gripping plot, replete with sexual content and graphic violence. However, what draws audiences to this show, set in medieval times is its capacity to draw you in, let you make your assumptions, shatter them completely, and then leave you guessing and hungry for more.
The insight you take back: Expect the unexpected. You never know when your favourite character will be beheaded or bumped off in the most uncanny manner. Gore and bloodshed are very much a part of the way GOT works, but it also gives you an insight into man's most base tendencies. When pitted against death, the choices we make may not be the most humane but reveal both the tender and the cruel sides that man can take, and that never fails to amaze you.

The Leftovers
A show that examines the concept of Rapture looking at how the sudden disappearance of loved ones can affect those left behind grappling with the loss and the realisation that they were not among those chosen and instead have been left behind.
The insight you take back: The realisation that you could and very well be left behind to grapple with questions that may never be answered.

The Returned
This French supernatural drama series is another venture into the land of impossibilities. It looks at the return of the dead in a small French town, who want to now pick up the pieces and start life where they had left.
The insight you take back: If life is a reality and so is death, is there a place in between the two that can be crossed over to get on either side. It's a question that many have tried to ask before, and probably something that they are still trying to find an answer to.

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey
In1980 astronomer Carl Sagan first invited audiences on a journey that connected people to science when he launched Cosmos an epic 13-part TV series. His legacy now lives on with Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey.
The insight you take back: The story of the cosmos and how it came into being is interesting, however, does not find many takers because it's often narrated in a matter of fact way. When you combine facts, with the latest discoveries and retell them with spectacular visual effects and animation, you will never fail to find an audience.

Under the Dome
This American sci-fi drama television series is based on a novel of the same name by Stephen King. It looks at how a small town's inhabitants have to face life living in an invisible barrier that cuts them off from the outside world. There is no getting in and no getting out.
The insight you take back: What do you do when an invisible barrier restricts you and holds you prisoner forcing you to live the life of an ant under a glass. Well, for starters, think on your feet, keep your cool and try not to lose your head.

The 100
In this American post-apocalyptic drama television series, a nuclear holocaust wipes out life on Earth. The only humans to survive the disaster are living on international space stations, and want to come back to earth. However, they are not sure if they will make it here because of the radiation. The only way out is to send 100 teenage criminals back to earth and see if they survive, paving the way for the others to return.
The insight you take back: Dealing with an existential crisis can sometimes make you stronger. In a world where resources are limited, and punishment for any crime is death, the only thing that helps you survive is the will to live.
