The Unicorn make-up trend isn't dying out anytime soon. Inspired by the mythical creature, a number of cosmetic brands have launched their own iridescent eyeliners and eyeshadows, pearly lipshades and sparkly highlighters.  What captivated the minds of not just beauty bloggers but women everywhere last year, is still going strong in 2017. While some might shy away from the trend for it's out there look, (think glittery shades of purple, pink and green), one can incorporate some of these products to up one's regular beauty game.

A little edgy and playful

Aakriti Kochar, Beauty and make-up expert, Oriflame, explains the Unicorn trend originated from the unicorn horn shaped eyeliner which evolved into trending ideas to work with pastel eyeliners, eyeshadows, blushers, highlighters and glitter. "This trend is definitely edgy and playful, incorporating pastel tone eyeshadows and glitter, which is something one does not wear every day. The point is to go all out. Coloured mascara and metallic highlighters are ideal for those who want to focus on making a statement without going overboard, while younger girls can play more with pastel eyeshadows and mascara. Just make sure your foundation looks bright and skin isn’t bronzed when wearing pastel lip shades, Using a BB cream or lightweight liquid foundation is recommended so that the colours stand out on a clean slate. You can also experiment by adding few pastel hair clip-ons,' says Aakriti.

Use less glitter

The fact that Unicorn make-up looks great in photographs has it raging on social media, opines Renuka Pillai, Celebrity make-up artist, Avon India. "The application of the look maybe different for different age groups. For your regular day out, you may want to skip on the unicorn horn liner look and use the right colour palette for a winged look and a little glitter. But if you are headed out to a party, there is no harm in going all out and using bold colours to define your eyes and lips. The colour palette may range from different shades of pink to violet and green and should be selected based on your skin tone. Sporting this look would require careful application of swirls of two or three colours and eyeliner to perfect the unicorn horn for eyes. You can extend the look to lips by applying a coat of glitter to the lips along with lipcolour. Since this trend shouts out fun and magic, one can go all out to make a statement," she says.

Bit much for Indian skin tones

Kapil Bhalla, make-up expert, feels the Unicorn trend is not well suited for Indian skin tones. "One can instead just do up one feature. Maybe a coloured glitter eyeliner or do subtle glitter highlights on the face, but only one at a time. Lips in a bold colour is also very wearable. Jewel tones like sapphire blue, turquoise, emerald and deep purple work well on Indian women. Glitter looks good on warm skin tones. Just avoid the cool blues and greens and silver which can be a bit too much," he says.
