In Argentina, it is said that a perfect dish is much like an Argentine tango; each ingredient flows in perfect rhythm. The Argentine Food Festival held at Shamiana at the Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai brings you authentic Argentinian delicacies, till 2nd October.

“Argentinians are known as great grillers, but we're great stewers too,” says Chef Daniel Godoy from the Alvear Art Hotel in Buenos Aires. “Argentinians love to get together with their family and friends, especially on Sundays. Throughout the week, everyone is busy with work, but on Sundays, we normally gather at our parents' home for lunch. In my family, on some Sundays, we have a barbecue; sometimes my mum cooks us an Italian meal (my grandmother is Italian).  We start with cocktails, wine, cheese and cocktails, while we wait for the barbecue to get ready. Argentinians also love to go out with friends for lunch or dinner and share special moments,” he adds.

Locro

Indulge yourself with flavourful dishes like Lamb Sweetbreads, Red beet Gnocchis, Empanadas and the Calchaqui Valley Humita prepared by Chef Daniel Godoy. You can also try Locra–Argentina's national dish—a stew made with several ingredients including white corn, white beans, onion, leek, Cabutia pumpkin and pork meat, which is cooked slowly for eight hours. It is served with a spoon of spicy sauce of animal fat, dried chilli flakes, paprika powder and chopped spring onions. Other dishes include Patognian lamb and desserts like Flan de Leche and Alfajores. “Along with a delightful array of Argentinian delicacies guests can also take their pick of a specially curated range of deliciously scintillating reds and whites from the north western province of La Rioja – the oldest wine-producing region in Argentina. With tantalizing notes of spice, soothing earthy aromas and delicious fruity traces, this unique selection of wines when paired with specific dishes will take your dining experience to a whole new level,” says Daniel.

While Argentinians love to use fine herbs, lentils and beans, many people watch TV shows and are interested in trying out new techniques. There are several world restaurants—Greek, Japanese, Thai, Indian–and Argentinians love exploring new cuisines.
