The next time you’re in Bandra and want to enjoy the taste of southwestern coastal cuisine, head to Curry Tales. We did. After a long day at work, we seated ourselves inside the simple, yet tastefully-designed canteen-style community restaurant that recently opened on Hill Road. And while coastal dishes can often be oily and spicy, leaving a heavy feeling in the pit of our stomachs, co-owners Suved Lohia and Chef Sandeep Sreedharan have created dishes that use locally-sourced ingredients, punching it with flavour with their home-style cooking. A glimpse of some of the dishes we tasted...

Tomato Rasam (Rs 110): One sip of this hot and tangy tomato soup was enough to soothe our frayed nerves after a hectic day at work. Tempered with spices, the Tomato Rasam was the perfect way to start our meal.

Prawn Recheado (Rs 450): The famous Goan Recheado masala is what makes this succulent prawn dish a winner. The spicy and hot spice mix delivered a kick to our taste buds.

Chicken Ghee Roast (Rs 450): The recipe from North Kerala had cubes of chicken roasted in ground spices and ghee and was an instant mood-enhancer. Have it with dosa to bring out the flavour.

Prawn Masala (Rs 450): Ground chilli and spices lend the dish a texture and we found ourselves ordering one more dosa, just to mop up the last of the delicious gravy.

Paalpayasam with jaggaried coconut (Rs 200): Not big fans of really sweet desserts, we eyed the Paalpayasam with suspicion, only to realise that there is some truth in the phrase ‘saving the best for last’. The kheer-like dish was light, not too sweet and the jaggaried coconut added another dimension to the dessert. A truly beautiful end to a delicious meal.
