Vincent Van Gogh described dreaming and painting together. His words are true to every artist with an insatiable urge to give form and structure to ideas that clog their brain. For some, abstract ideas take a realistic shape, while others choose to go follow the art in abstraction. Understanding the motivation behind the artwork is trying to decipher the depth of the artist's thought process.

Sandesh Khule, who is based in Mansarovar, is an artist who specialises in abstract art while expressing his ideas through geometrical figures. "All the forms in the universe can be formed with basic geometrical shapes. Everything around is first a circular or polygonal, before it assumes a complex structure. These forms are purely abstract in the real sense of the world. Thus, I am much inclined to make use of it," said Khule.

There is no need for an abstract artist to exert energy on coming up with new ideas or become skillful in their art. The 31-year-old feels that it is a natural process that never halts. Khule said, "If you really love what you do, everything around you is an inspiration to practise art on the canvas."

Providing elements to the society and the larger world, painting expressions through such basic forms are the qualities Khule is gifted with. From woman power to the energetic spirit of people in Mumbai, anything he finds to be admirable finds a place in his canvas. "I have made a series of paintings of a table that I used everyday, be it to keep my supplies or to have discussions with friends and fellow artists. So, I decided to paint it and made over 60 sketches and paintings of one object. Initially, they were realistic drawings, but after a few attempts, I decided to try unconventional ideas," said the artist.

Khule expressed, "This attempt to break away from conventional thoughts is what makes one stand out as an abstract painter. At a demonstration for art students, this is one of the points I always share. They should pick any everyday object and try to portray it differently umpteen times, so that they can let go of rigid understanding of mundane objects we use in life. This is how one can lean from realistic to abstract thinking."

His visits to art galleries of traditional European artists has given him the opportunity to take inspiration from culture there. "Work of Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso have been a great source of inspiration," he said.

Mentioning people's difficulty in understanding the meaning behind abstract paintings, Khule said that it is all about interpreting as one wishes to. "Having just one meaning or explanation for a painting makes it dead. With new meanings by different people, an artist's work stays alive. However, people need to take an active interest in comprehending abstract works, instead of just ignoring them. Attending art exhibitions, communicating ideas to artists and reading on such work will help to gather more establishment."
