Having fingerfoods on your workdesk can get quite messy both ways — you tend to drop food on your keyboard and in exchange touch the food again with more germs on your fingertips. There is a gadget though that can help you sail that. It’s called trongs.

This multi-purpose finger food ‘utensil’ makes eating and prep work easier. All you have to do is insert your pinchers (thumb, index and middle finger) inside each of the little contraptions and voilà — your fingers are no longer a mess. No more goop between your nails or sticky fingers.

The creators insist that trongs are great for eating sushi, shrimp cocktail, Hors d’oeuvre, potato chips, and the list goes on. Although trongs are designed to keep your fingers clean, they can also be used to keep your food clean (like we said —  typing on the keyboard while eating).

Plus, when your fingers are clean, you are free to answer the phone, pick up the baby, or anything else you are called upon to do.

PS: Now those of you thinking it’s a great idea to copy and mass produce at Indian rates, the duo have an International patent!

HOW IT CAME INTO BEING
As mentioned on their official website, while working late one night, Eric Zimmermann and Dan Ferrara decided to take a break and grab some buffalo wings. Just as they sunk their teeth in, Dan’s cell phone rang and he scrambled to wipe his fingers clean. Not able to do so quick enough, he missed the call. That was the moment when they realised the obvious utensil that the world had been missing, and the concept of the trong was born. For the next year, Eric and Dan worked to create dozens of different models of this new utensil, continually improving the design.

Where is it available
Online on Amazon and of course, on its official website. Though you’ll have to check if they deliver to India. You get a pack of minimum six pairs, and trongs are one-size-fits-all. And yes, they are reusable and washable.

Mihir Desai, co-owner, The Big Bang Bar and Cafe, says that the most impressive from the line of cutlery he’s seen so far has to be the sauce dispensing chopsticks at a restaurant in Japan. “They have something like those liquid medicine dispensers for kids on top of one of the chopsticks that’s filled with soy sauce. And you can trickle some in every bite.”
