Dragon Boat Race Carnival, Hong Kong
If you're headed to Hong Kong, you can join a huge crowd of spectators surrounding Victoria Harbour as thousands of the world's top dragon boat athletes battle it out in the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Race Carnival or Tuen Ng Festival. An annual event, it dates back 2000 years, when a Chinese national hero, Qu Yuan drowned himself in Miluo River to protest against corrupt rulers. To scare away fish from eating his body, locals beat drums and threw zongzi (glutinous rice dumplings) in the water and racing to search for his body became a cultural tradition.

Supercon, Florida
While it may not be in the San Diego comic-con league, Supercon is Miami's largest comic con. Completing a decade this year, this four-day event at the Miami Beach Convention Center will see celebrity guests, comic book creators, voice actors, industry guests, cos-players, artists, writers, panels, films and shorts, vendors, parties, anime, workshops, video gaming and more!
