Designer duo Hemant and Nandita in their FW16 line explored faux fur in terms of neck and shawl collars, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla accented their dupattas with it and Huemn sent out a fur collared bomber jacket for their Lakme Fashion Week outing. Sabyasachi too peppered his bridal ensembles with fur neck chokers and fur clutches. While Delhi's nippy winters are perfect to have fun with fur, Mumbai fashion junkies can only play with it in terms of accessories. Let's speak to designers on how to get the mood exotica right...

Lends luxury

Designer Nandita Raipurani of label Hemant and Nandita says, "It went so well with our theme of The Dark Enchantress. The collection was of the fall deep dark floral with a magic and charm of metallic colours. Faux Fur lends a luxury to the fall look and  lends a different dimension to the look."

She adds, "Faux fur used in bags or as an accessory looks warm and cozy for the winter while increasing the style quotient of the look. Fur was everywhere for Fall’16 on the international runways and looking at the inspiration we have had for this collection, it just fitted in together."

Adds flavour

Designer Pranav Mishra of label Huemn observes that usage of faux fur is also little socially responsible way of attending to the material. You get the feel of the fur and you also feel good that someone's life is not compromised. We've used it in bits and pieces, but not too much out there to add a bit of flavour to the collection which was inspired by '90s hip hop and rap music."

Be smart about it

Stylist Aastha Sharma says, "In Delhi and North of India, it's suitable and totally ups your look and makes any ensemble classy and chic. You have to be tall to carry a fur jacket. It depends on your body type and you have to be very smart. It's a fad right now and can gone wrong badly. It looks out of place in Mumbai. Having said that, you can wear it in accessories like jewellery, a touch of it on shoes or a fur detail on your bag. For example, Fendi's fur charms are ideal to make a statement yet it's not trying too hard.

Wear it on your travels

Designer Nandita Mahtani says, "Faux fur is not really warm. A fur collar, a sleeveless gilet works well. In Mumbai we do get those two weeks of nice weather. Also, you can wear it on your travels."
