Designer Maheka Mirpuri who has started the MCan Foundation in association with the Tata Memorial Hospital last November in support of those suffering from head and neck cancer is taking the cause one step further. The designer who had hosted a fashion fundraiser show with actress and cancer survivor Manisha Koirala walking the ramp, has unveiled an affordable range of bridal wear in order to raise more funds towards the foundation. Says Maheka, “The cause is very personal to me as I lost my father and brother-in-law to cancer. This foundation is working towards not just spreading awareness but also collecting money for the underprivileged who are fighting cancer. We’ve already collecting over 30 lakhs and I hope to keep adding to this.” The bridal line plays a lot on colours, styling and fabrics. Though it is well-priced, each design is elaborate enough to be worn for any wedding function. “This is the first time I’m doing bridal wear in the `30,000 range. I’ve created blouses with jewelled necklines and studded brooches to ensure the glam quotient remains high. They are priced such that a bride can pick up a couple of pieces easily,” says the designer whose line includes saris, lehengas and kurtas in chantilly lace, velvet, silk and cottons. Chikankari, tilla work, resham appliqué, gold zari work and crochet feature in the designs.
