It’s all about colour and sparkle this Fall. The recent Fall 2018 fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan offered enough hair and make-up trends to keep us going through the year. From metallic jewel-toned eyes and mane dos, to vivid red lips, there are a myriad of looks that can be replicated.

RAINBOW MANE

Marc Jacobs sent models down the runway flaunting bright hued locks. One saw asymmetrical bobs and bowl cuts in jewel toned dyes. Emerald green, amber and amethyst purple were used to make the model’s hair stand out. One model even flaunted a berry hued undercut. There was nothing subtle about the ’80s nightclub inspired dos that had a slight punk vibe and was further styled with matching glitter shadow on the lids.

DARK AND DRAMATIC

At Tom Ford’s show models chanelled a street style look. Black eyeshadow was used to create a smoky kohled look with tons of mascara. Renuka Pillai celebrity make-up expert, AVON, explains, “Kohled eyes never go out of vogue. The new trend is keeping the face very fresh and natural and giving the eyes a dramatic look. And what else but a deep coloured pencil helps in nailing the job.”

STYLE IT UP

There was a heavy emphasis on hair accessories this season. The comb headband was seen for Prabal Gurung’s show giving a major throwback to the ’90s. While Tom Ford had models sporting thick black leather headbands. The claw clip was seen for Alexander Wang holding together slicked back hair in a metallic tone giving it a modern spin. Barrettes were also seen at Christian Siriano.

REGAL IN RED

It looks like the classic red lip isn’t going anywhere. Instead, variations of it were seen at Fall shows. Chromat made it their own with a crimson take, Brandon Maxwell gave the red statment lip a glam touch with gold highlighter accentuating the cupid’s bow. Self-Portrait and Cushnie et Ochs too played with this colour. Make-up artist Bhumika Bahri says a red lip is like the little black dress of the make-up world, perfect for any occasion. “Red lipstick is classic and elegant. Wearing this colour is the easiest way to brighten up your face. The trick to finding the ideal red lip shade is looking for a colour that has the same undertone as your skin.”

STATEMENT EYES

Eyes were the highlight at a number of shows with make-up artists playing with different hues to make the peepers pop. At Anna Sui, purple and pink eye colours complemented each other, while at Ulla Johnson lids got gilded with real gold leaf. Meanwhile, Sies Marjan went for colour-blocked lids. Renuka Pillai, celebrity make-up expert, AVON says, “Colour blocked eyelids is all about indulging your love of colours and your love of make-up and creating mesmerising looks with contrasting colours. Dramatically different from the general looks one generally goes for, these make you stand out specially if using loud shades. Bold colours like yellow, electric pink, cerulean blue, etc work well with the Indian skin tone. If you want to keep it subtle, opt for a pastel eyeshadow palette.”
