They say a waffle is like a pancake with a syrup trap, one that even POTUS can’t resist. Remember his famous quote, “Why can’t I just eat my waffle?”, lamenting the fact that reporters would not even let him enjoy his breakfast in peace. Clearly, President Barack Obama loves his waffles, and who can blame him? Topped with fresh fruits, a dollop of whipped cream or butter, enjoyed with a syrup of your choice, waffles are a sinful breakfast option that can satiate your sugar cravings. The best part, you now get them in different varieties — savoury and sweet. Here’s looking at some of the best waffles available in different parts of the city.

The Original Liege Waffle 

If you are a stickler for details, and know your waffles, you would be aware of the fact that waffles generally come in two types — Brussels, which are light and crisp, and the liege, which is denser, chewier and sweeter. Table serves the Liege Waffle with vanilla sauce, fresh raspberries and whipped cream and crystals of sugar for that extra crunch.

Make your own Waffles

Recipe for Belgian Waffles

Ingredients
100 gms egg yolks
40 ml cream
130 ml milk
160 gms flour
100 gms melted butter
150 gms egg white
50 gms sugar

For garnishing

Some icing sugar, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream or fresh berries

Method

Mix the egg yolks, 25 gms of sugar, cream and milk. Sieve the flour and add the above mentioned ingredients, blend to a smooth paste.  Melt the butter and add to the mixture. Whip up the egg white with the remaining sugar and add to the mixture.  Bake in oiled iron at 180° C for about three to five minutes. Serve warm with berries, vanilla Ice cream, whipped cream or dust with icing sugar.
