MARIAH CAREY

Mariah Carey and billionaire James Packer dated for 18 months till they called time on their relationship in October 2016. Post their ugly split, James paid the singer in a settlement about $6million (including the value of the 35 carat diamond engagement ring). In a bid to move forward with her life, Mariah sold the $10 million ring designed by New York-based jewellery designer Wilfredo Rosado. She got $2.1 million from a jeweller in Los Angeles. 

KIM BASINGER

Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin who met on the sets of The Marrying Man, tied the knot in 1993, only to end up divorcing in 2001. What followed was a bitter spat with both fighting for custody of their daughter Ireland Baldwin. In 2004, Kim chose to auction off her 3.7 carat diamond ring. She gave the proceeds, about $59,000, to an animal charity. 

PARIS HILTON 

Paris Hilton and Paris Latsis were a couple back in 2015. The Greek shipping heir proposed to the hotel heiress with a 24 carat diamond ring worth $5 million. A few months into the engagement, she called it off saying she was not ready for marriage. Post their split, Paris auctioned the jewel and gave the funds to victims of Hurricane Katrina.

PAMELA ANDERSON

Pamela Anderson and Rick Solomon tied the knot first in 2007, only to call time on their relationship a few months later. The couple then reconciled in 2014, and divorced six months later. In 2015, she got rid of the 3.24 carat diamond ring. All proceeds went towards her non-profit charity, The Pamela Anderson Foundation, which works towards human, animal and environmental rights.

ELIZABETH TAYLOR 

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton had a very public romance with two marriages and divorces. He proposed to the actress with an engagement ring with a 33 carat stone, later coined as the Elizabeth Taylor diamond. Bought by Burton in 1968, it was then sold for $5 million with funds being used for building a hospital in Botswana.
