A popular tourist hub for Indians as well as travellers from across the globe, Dubai is now offering more to tourists. The Summer is Dubai festival — a three-month long campaign that started on June 7, hopes to entice families on a summer break.

The fest that holds discounts on hotels, dining and shopping, also has a packed schedule with events for people of all ages. Saeed Al Falasi, Director — Strategic Alliances, Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, explains that the idea was to highlight the city as a family destination. He says, “We’ve ensured that there is something every week to engage tourists. People may be scared of the hot weather, but a lot of activities are concentrated in the air-conditioned malls.”

CHILD FRIENDLY
The city offers a host of activities to keep children occupied, from a Kids Fashion Week to a Smurf Show with lots of music and dancing, as well as a Strawberry Shortcake Show for little girls. Modhesh World — a popular children’s destination — too will host games, contests and workshops. “There are also packages in hotels where kids under the age of 12, can stay and dine for free,” adds Mr Saeed.

JOIN THE FUN
“Dubai is a destination for everyone — not just for couples but business people and families too. We have a packed calendar of events so that people can plan their stay,” says Mr Saeed. With cultural shows featuring South African performers, Indian sarod maestros, football championships, indoor skating and BMX competitions as well as Ramadan and Eid related events, there’s much to be seen and done when in Dubai.

DISCOUNTS AND GIFTS

While the malls will have discounts and sales, there will be a range of prizes being given out as well. “Those who spend 200 dirhams can participate in a lucky draw with gifts including one million dirham in cash, BMW cars, and during Eid one million dirhams in gold will be given out among other prizes,” he says.
