Diwali 2015: 5 tips to keep your hair silky and smooth

You probably plan to get a trendy hair-do this Diwali. But possibilities are they might not exactly shine through given the air pollution and thanks to the firecrackers. To help you maintain your tresses through the festival of lights, Dr. Sonal Shah, Trichologist and founder of Richfeel Trichology, lists some easy to follow tips.
 
1. Wash your hair more frequently
You are probably going to use a lot more products this season like gels and sprays to keep your hair in place. Using a mild shampoo and conditioner a bit more frequently is recommended.

2. Oil your hair
You wouldn’t want to miss out on the oiling ritual as the frequent washing might lead to dryness. Oil helps keep your hair healthy and retain its naturals shine. Try to oil at least an hour before you shampoo.

3. Massage your scalp with essential oils
The abhyang snaan is an age old Diwali ritual, where you slather your body with essential oils and massage the head and skin. Rejuvenate your hair with either almond, olive or jaborandi oil.
 
4. Pamper your hair
After any intense styling and chemical application, it is advisable to go for a treatment like a hair spa to reverse any damage done to your hair.
 
5. Sleep it off
Last, but the most important one – get a good, restful sleep. When you are sleep deprived, the overall nourishment of the body is affected thereby making your hair to look dull.  
 
For some extra glow, try these easy homemade hair packs:
 
1. Hair softening honey and milk pack
Mix 1 teaspoon honey into a glass of raw whole milk then massage it into the hair and rinse.
 
2. Coconut cream pack
Scrape out all the coconut cream at the bottom of a tender green coconut. Put it in a dish and microwave for 7-8 seconds to just warm it slightly. Slowly massage it into your hair from root to tip. Wrap your hair in a warm towel and sit put for an hour. Wash with a mild shampoo and let your dry hair naturally.
