One can’t help but sense an unmistakable Texan cowgirl vibe in the Fall Winter 18 canvas. Be it the quintessential riding pants-meets-cowboy shirts combo or the tantalising leather fringed ensembles. Think flannel shirts, buffalo checks and monochrome gingham and you’ve pretty much nailed the look.

In terms of accessories, broad vintage belts with statement buckles, thigh-high boots and stone-washed denim shirts have been flooding our Insta feeds. Labels like Isabel Marant, Chloe, Alberta Ferretti, Coach and Givenchy have made ranch dressing au courant. Riding trousers and studded collared shirts were seen at Alberta Ferretti and Isabel Marant accented her offerings with leather fringes.  While the ranch vibe may look amazing on the runway, it’s not for the faint-hearted. We get design mavens to suggest ways to edit down these bold and daring Texan looks.

GOING BACK TO ROOTS

A section of designers see this earthy and rustic appeal as fashion’s reaction to tech overkill. Designer Dhruv Kapoor observes, “Sometimes technology gets too much and you want to push back to the orthodox way of living. Maria Grazia Chiuri celebrated that natural aesthetic at Dior cruise show last year. On the other hand, if a street label like Off-White interprets this trend, it’ll have a rather futuristic approach.”

Dhruv suggests a clever play of fringed leather jackets and denims. “Investing in a nifty pair of denims is key. Team it with a blouse which had 3D tonal prints —  the overall vibe being partly soft bohemian and partly structured.”

UP YOUR ACCESSORIES GAME

Stylist Divyak D’Souza suggests investing in classic pieces which transcend seasons and a cool play of accessories. “I’d suggest a white shirt and blue jeans with a printed silk neck tie, a straw fedora and a saddle bag. It’s all about reinventing classic silhouettes with off-the-wall accessories,” says he.

LET ONE ELEMENT STAND OUT

It’s about striking a sartorial balance and not cluttering the look with too many statement-making pieces. Designer Rimzim Dadu suggests, an oversized hat and pairing it with a simple shirtdress. “If you want to go for a knotted plaid shirt, pair it with something simple. Focus on one statement piece, do not overwhelm the ensemble with too many distracting elements,” says Rimzim.
