The coronavirus pandemic has been tough on many people with businesses being shut and people mostly home-bound. Amid this, on Thursday, a video of an elderly citizen in tears as his business of a small road-side eatery suffered a huge setback in the lockdown surfaced on the internet.

For the uninformed, the 80-year-old man sells home-cooked meals from a tiny kiosk for the past 30 long years in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar locality with the name Baba ka Dhaba but hasn't been able to make much of business lately.

Thursday morning "Baba Ka Dhaba" was among the top trends on Twitter and a constant stream of customers could be seen at the make-shift shop with many celebrities and cricketers also extending a helping hand to the couple.

The original video of the couple was shot by blogger Gaurav Vasan yesterday, in which 80-year-old Kanta Prasad shared that he and his wife Badami Devi start cooking at 6.30 am and are ready with the day's meal by 9.30 am. Dal, curry, parathas, and rice were kept in large dishes, ready to serve for around ₹ 30-50 a plate.

When he was asked how much he has earned, he broke down and produced Rs 10 notes from a box. In four hours, Rs 50 was his earning.

Reports state that the couple gets no help from their children either, two sons and a daughter.

As soon as the video went viral many people offered to help the couple financially and others announced their plans for lunch at Baba Ka Dhaba.

Actor Sonam Kapoor, cricketer R Ashwin, IPL team Delhi Capitals, and food delivery app Zomato also tweeted their support.

Now that people have started to support the 'Dhaba', several customers also took photos alongside it, posting the address on Twitter. Several people also made contributions to the internet's "uncle and aunty".

This story is proof that if used appropriately the power of social media is unmatched.
