This week, two dating apps are in the news, standing out among the rest for being truly unique. The first is one called MouseMingle, and has been created by a former Disney railroad engineer, Dave Tavres, with the hope  “to connect people who love Disney and who want that same magic in their relationship,” as the site explains. The second is dubbed Sweatt, best described as Tinder for people in really, great shape, which will go live in Apple’s App Store in December. So if you’re a strict paleo vegan or always looking to stay fit and healthy, Sweatt will make it easier to find a partner who won’t make fun of you for not eating meat or doing more cardio. While MouseMingle aims to help you find your prince or princess in the quest to have your own happily-ever-after.

Can they work?

We got both experts, skeptics and singles to give their take on it. Seema Hingorrany, a clinical psychologist/author, says, “To start with I think it works initially, but, in the long run, you need more than similar preferences to keep a couple together. If we get too rigid with our preferences, life can get boring and monotonous. Also, date someone who has different tastes and likes actually is a better alternative as it exposes you to new things, and helps you evolve and grow as an individual because of the varied opportunities you encounter along the way.”
Shivani Sutrale, a travel executive adds, “I love both - Disney and staying fit. I think the apps are definitely a great way to interact with new people. It helps you break the ice and connect with someone purely on the basis of shared interests. I would definitely try it out once.” Ritika Shah, an insurance executive, says, “I think while both the concepts sound interesting, you are more likely to find a friend through these apps. I think for a serious relationship you need more than love for Disney and healthy workouts to bring you closer as a couple through the years.”

About MouseMingle

On MouseMingle, users fill out a survey about their favourite Disney songs and characters. Users also must admit their “Disney nerd level,” so that someone who sleeps in Minnie Mouse footie PJs beneath Minnie Mouse sheets beside a hunk-of-cheese lamp doesn’t get matched with a lady who just really loves Splash Mountain.

About Sweatt

The app asks singles to answer questions about their workout routines, lifestyles and diets before pairing them with like-minded partners. After signing up for the app, singles also answer questions about their favorite time of day to exercise and how many times per week they workout. That data gets crunched and used to track down the best match.
