Belly dance workout


Originally from the middle east, this form of dancing is sensual and has received great acclaim from a lot of women worldwide for its fitness quotient. This kind of dancing works very well on your lower spine, abdomen muscles, glutes, calves and thighs. Says Aziza Degwekar, a professional belly dancer in Pune, “Belly dancing is much more than sexy moves. If practiced along with a balanced diet, it can make your body stronger and leaner within two to three months.” Only a recent craze in town, Essa Duhaime, owner of Diva Belly Dance studio says, “Initially, belly dance wasn’t very popular in Pune, but with all the popularity in movies, it has achieved great publicity. Women don’t just see transformations physically but overall, they become more graceful and feminine.” 

Shiraz Irani, who was one of the finalists in a reality show, lost 25 kg in less than eight months of practicing belly dance.

Zumba & Aqua Zumba workout


Another fitness trend that has caught like a wildfire is Zumba. It is a fun way to stay fit and it isn’t confined to any age group. Focusing on your overall body, Zumba plays around with your heart rate and helps you burn a lot of calories. “Zumba is fun, fast and you burn more calories where you can lose four-five kilos a month,” says Vishal Kumar Singh. Another form of fitness that falls under a similar category as the Latin Dance form is Aqua Zumba. Dershana Sarpotdar says, “Aqua Zumba is an upcoming way of fitness in Pune.One burns more calories because it involves movements in the water.” Fortunately, here knowing swimming is not mandatory unlike what most people would assume because the level of water only goes up to the chest. “It is the best way of fitness for people who are not regular at the gym” adds Dershana.
