In the 1920’s Coco Chanel popularised the concept of buying jewellery and accessories to match the outfit and finish the look. Almost a 100 years later and the trend is still on an unstoppable rise, nothing quite completes an everyday look like that perfect piece of jewellery. The problem with fine jewellery is that it doesn’t allow for the kind of playful experimentation that costume jewellery does, not to mention it’s expensive. Cheap costume jewellery has a different set of problems; it doesn’t tend to stay in good condition for long and often, once broken or tarnished, it’s next to impossible to fix. There is however a third option, one that fits in right in the middle of the fashion food chain. Mid-priced jewellery falls under the bracket of ‘affordable luxury’, it’s easy to integrate into your daily wardrobe, it won’t fall apart like the cheap and cheerful high street stuff, it’s not seasonal, you can have it easily fixed or repolished and if you invest in the right piece you might just have a heirloom in hand.

Precious jewellery is called precious because it comes from the depths of nature and gemstones are usually a product of many years of mother nature’s work that involves the right temperature pressure and minerals to create jewels that are one-of-a-kind and unique in the true sense of the word.

Precious jewellery is timeless. It outlives its wearer and brings a sea of memories with it. It is usually passed down generations and becomes a family heirloom. It commemorates important occasions in your life that could range from the birth of a child to a graduation ceremony, a wedding and even the first declaration of love between couples and brings a certain nostalgia when you wear it. Real jewellery is an investment of a lifetime and appreciates in value compared to fashion jewellery. It can also help you tide over a bad time in life and can come to use in a rainy day when you need to cash it. Fashion synthetic jewellery can cause skin irritations whereas real jewellery does not as they are natural mineral compositions. Precious jewellery can be worn by all age groups and shared between members of the same family.
