One might might not read them as voraciously as they did as a child, but the number of comic book fans across the world has hardly dwindled over the years. Festivals celebrating comic books and graphic novels are quite a common phenomenon worldwide and there’s no reason for India to be left behind. And now, Bangalore gets its own Comic Con where you can meet comic book artists, graphic novelists, read new releases and be part of a rather large gala.

“Bangalore has a fantastic and well-informed audience. With every new city, it takes a while to establish our presence, but in Bangalore, it has certainly happened a lot faster than expected. The Comic Con Express 2012 held in the city got a great response. Not just visitors but it also had a lot of participants — everyone is eager to come to Bangalore, which is why we decided to host Bangalore Comic Con as an annual event,” says Jatin Varma, founder, Comic Con India.

The Bangalore Comic Con 2013, says Jatin, will be very different from the others. “It’s our biggest event this year. In fact, it is much larger than the one in Delhi. With each convention, we try and bring the city’s local artists and creators together and the fans contribute to the high levels of energy. And when it comes to Bangalore, the city has a fantastic audience. This year we are bringing in international exhibitors as well. And just like our events in Delhi and Mumbai, we hope to give Bangalore its own identity in the coming years by bringing in more international artists and creators,” explains Jatin.

From book launches to workshops to costume play and various other contests, the Bangalore Comic Con 2013 is going to be action-packed. “Even though we are coming back to Bangalore within eight months of the Comic Con Express, we still have brand new Indian titles launching exclusively at the convention. We have some of the best retailers and merchandisers bringing in amazing stuff for fans.

We will also have international exhibitors coming in to showcase their comics and merchandise, exclusively for Bangalore. Look forward to Dark Horse Comics, Cinebook, Diamond Select Toys, Robot & Spark Merch; we haven’t featured these publishers and merchandisers in any of other events. Bangalore is also going to be part our latest exclusive, Swag Bags.

These are limited edition bags created just for the convention and only 10,000 of them will be given out. Apart from the launches, we have some great sessions with various comic book creators and tons of on-stage quizzes and contests for the audience. And finally, we have expanded our Cosplay contest to five categories each day. And everyone in a costume gets an assured prize,” shares Jatin before he signs off.
