Catalysts for Social Action (CSA) is a Not-For-Profit organisation dedicated to the cause of upliftment and betterment of less privileged children living in orphanages across the country. Their annual fund-raising gala will be held tomorrow at Four Seasons, Worli, that includes an art auction by some prominent artists and galleries. Presenting a few artists and their thoughts...

JAGANNATH PAUL

It is the varied nuances of the male and female relationship that form the crux of Jagannath Paul’s paintings. Using charcoal and colours on paper and canvas, the artist uses colours to bring out the different moods, expressions and emotions manifested in those relationships. “If you look at my works, you will find that while the concept remains the same, it is the composition that changes each time,” he says, adding that he is known for this style of painting now. The artist has been consistently doing solo shows over the years and has also taken part in a number of group shows. Jagannath has been donating paintings for the CSA auction for the past two-three years now, and this time, he has donated two paintings.

GEETA DASS

A prominent figure in the contemporary art scene, Geeta Dass was always inclined towards the arts, even though she was a Science student. She graduated in Fine Arts from the College of Arts and Crafts, Lucknow University, UP in 1984 and further studied Paintings and Graphics in Australia, Japan and USA. The artist’s paintings adorn the houses of many prominent figures in the city. For the CSA auction for which she donated one painting, Geeta says that she has kept children’s imagination in mind while creating it. “Kids are always more exposed to nature than we are as adults. Just the way children are always lost in a dream world of imagination, my painting too depicts an innocence and has a dreamlike quality. I have used the blue colour as I find there is a lot of depth in it,” she says.

MADHURI KATHE

With a Masters degree in drawing and painting and a Masters in Ancient Indian History Culture & Archaeology, Madhuri Kathe has participated in a number of solo and group shows over the years. “The themes for my paintings are based on my thoughts which are of a philosophical nature. The nature and our bodies are made up of five components — earth, sun, water, air and sky — and each of them represents a colour. Technically, one can say that it’s an experiment,” she adds. The artist uses mixed media on canvas and this time, she has used rice paper on canvas. “I have donated two paintings to the CSA auction this time. It’s for a good cause and I’m happy to be a part of it,” she signs off.
