The battle of attrition between Nitesh Rane and veteran TV journalist Nikhil Waghle which began on Twitter has now spilled on to the streets of Mumbai. This cartoon signed by Rane Jr depicts a likeness of Waghle and is catching the attention of passersby near Mumbai Central. While road rage and smashing toll booths have so far been this Congress MPs claim to fame, this 'non-violent' form of confrontation is something of a surprise. But let's start from the beginning - the matter concerns a series of defamatory posts by Narayan Rane's son about Waghle on Twitter, claiming he was involved in some impropriety with a female staffer, going on to call him the "Tarun Tejpal of Marathi journalism". Adding to the bitterness is Nitesh's personal attacks on Waghle's wife Meena Karnik who has reportedly joined Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party.

Though the senior scribe finally registered a case under the IT Act against the short tempered Swabhiman Sanghatana chief, nothing much came of it. On the contrary, now an emboldened Nitesh has gone ahead and filed a defamation case against Waghle in Bandra court. From what we hear, he's demanding a compensation of Rs 100 crore for some reason and the next hearing of the matter has been scheduled for February 24. When it comes to the Ranes, there's really never a dull moment.
