How does a luxury brand like Bvlgari (the luxe house that pronounces V as U) celebrate its 130th birthday? By throwing a huge bash in Delhi attended by the who's who of the capital, of course. But also, and this is longer lasting, by unveiling a store at the one-stop luxury mall, DLF Emporio in New Delhi.This move comes in the wake of Jean Christophe Babin, the dynamic CEO who recently assumed reins of the company. That they waited this long, is the question to ask. Babin says, "We decided to be patient. One needs to see it from both points of view: that of the company in what we are happy to offer our clients and our clients in what they see. I am happy to say that the location and our store is exactly what we had in mind. Considering the fact that Indians are well aware of Bvlgari and are fans of the brand, I think this is the perfect time and place". The store is redolent of the Bvlgari imagery. Hollywood stars dot the walls that wore the famous brand. The showcases talk of its heritage pieces, its contemporary jewellery and of course, its classic lines like the Serpenti and Roma. "Italian jewellery, like architecture, is famous for its sense of aesthetics and design," says Babin, of the pieces that Bvlgari is displaying, which spans from the traditional yellow gold to women's new best friend, coloured stones. "Each of our collections areinspired by Italian symbols whether they are elegant day pieces or dazzling high jewellery."So how do they stop consumers from peeping into the store and then stepping into New York , London and Dubai to shop for the very same pieces? "By keeping prices competitive and absorbing some of it ourselves," says Babin. "Indians today are well-travelled and well-informed. They don't need to go all the way to another continent to buy a piece of jewellery, especially when prices are positively comparable. They will not be disappointed."
