Braids continue to reign the style charts. While the weather remains warm, more fashionistas around the globe have been seen incorporating a plait in their do. The latest braid style to catch everyone’s fancy is the faux undercut braid. The  style, which features one or more french braids woven tightly against the head, is set in such a way it appears that the wearer has an undercut (a radical look if one chooses to actually chop it). Stars like Kristen Stewart, Khloé Kardashian, and Jennifer Aniston among others, have been spotted sporting this look.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT PRODUCTS

Ayesha Mistry, Creative Director of Juice salon explains the trend. “Most people like to occasionally spot a daring trend, however the thought of shaving off the hair can be scary. By braiding one or more french braids tightly against the head we can create a similar look without going under the scissors,” she says.

However, it’s important to use the right kind of products for a good hold. “You will need a soft wax or a pomade to ape this look. If you want to achieve a really tight and smooth braid with clean lines, braid when the hair is 50 per cent wet, and spray the braid with a strong hold hairspray. Use a bit of dry shampoo for texture for the out-of-bed day look. For the night, add a few soft curls with tongs or put the rest of the hair in an upstyle,” she advises.

IT SUITS EVERYONE
Namrata Soni, L’Oréal Paris beauty expert, says the reason for the popularity of this trend is that it’s extremely versatile. “It’s very young, very rocker-chic, and that’s why it is popular with today’s younger generation. All you need is a great attitude to carry it off,” she says, adding, “Hair that is really difficult using can be tamed by some smoothening products before starting the hairstyle.

For the day, the best way to wear the look is to put part of the hair in a faux-undercut fishtail braid, and the rest of the hair in another fishtail braid. Both the braids can be swept up to one side to create an elegant day hairdo. For the night, just open that larger fishtail braid and let the hair fall loosely on one side.” Always ensure that you use heat-protection products. It keeps the hair healthy and adds shine.

EXPERIMENT WITH THE LOOK
This is a very popular hairstyle amongst the younger celebrities  says Mitesh Tailor, principal stylist at Saks salon and spa. “This look gives the hair an asymmetric look with a braid on one side. You can choose a variety of different braids to be placed on the side too. To create some variation, you can curl and wave the rest of the hair to add the wow factor,” he says.
