Miley Cyrus was snapped a week ago, flaunting golden blonde locks as she stepped out with her mother. The singer who earlier had blonde highlights on her brunette mane has now gone all out with this hue. Just a few days before her alleged heroin overdose, Demi Lovato took to social media to share a snap showing off her honey-coloured ombré highlights. Rihanna too,  recently, teased long locks in this hue only to later reveal it to be a wig. With the summer on in full swing abroad, more stars are opting for the sun-kissed look. In fact, even the older stars like Julia Roberts and Salma Hayek have been experimenting with this colour.

Shade for everyone

Blondes are a big trend for 2018. When you talk about the colour, there are a multitude of shades that fill this spectrum. It can range from the subtlest warm blondes to a complete transformation using a pre-lightening process.

“There can be platinum, natural, strawberry, beige, silver, medium, honey or bronze blondes. Warm blondes are more natural looking than the ashy and bleach blondes that have also been popular. There is a shade for every personality,” says Adhuna Bhabani, Founder and Creative Director, BBLUNT.

While choosing the correct tone of blonde, a few things need to be considered. One’s natural hair colour, skin tone, eye colour and what kind of an image you are looking for yourself. Mixing the brown family with the blondes, can look exotic on medium skin tones. Keep the colour multi-dimensional, using several shades, within the same family of colour so when the light hits the hair, it has a healthy shine, she recommends.

Works for Indian skin

A nice blonde always stands out and makes you look and feel special, opines Loic Chapoix, Creative Art Director, Dessange, L’oreal Professionnel Dream team member. “I always advise my Indian clients to go for a  balayage and to keep the roots darker for a natural kind of a blonde. It’s easier to maintain too,” says he, adding that one needs to choose a hue depending on the skin tone and hair texture.

If you’re afraid of going all blonde then add another medium tone to it, suggests Anisha Fernandes Tavares Senior stylist and make-up artist from Nalini of Nalini & Yasmin Salon. “Different techniques allow you to add the blonde dimension to create your own personalised look. Blonde hair is playful, attractive and bold. One should take extra care when it’s coloured to repair and hydrate the hair with deep conditioning treatments and masks,” she says.

Don’t forget to use a heat protector while styling your hair.

Maintenance is key

Blonde is a timeless, classic favourite. It does not fade away like reds and coppers, and is often associated with ultimate glamour and high-end fashion. Agnes Chen, Technical Head of Streax Professional says, “Blonde works for most hair textures, but it is showcased the most if the hair is smooth, frizz-free and straight. Maintenance is key to the secret of beautiful hair colour. Definitely, use a colour protective shampoo and mask. Use a serum on mid-lengths and ends, for ultimate shine and smoothness. For long-lasting colour, once a fortnight pamper your hair with a hair spa treatment.”
