One of the biggest challenges in decorating your home for a party is to brighten up empty corners of a room. Aradhana Nagpal, owner of Dhoop store in Bandra, suggests a few quick ways to transform the silent corners of your house into conversation starters.
The audio cassette lamp
Things you will need: Few old audio cassettes, glue, a bulb and a wire with a plug
Get started: Vertically stack three cassettes on top of each other. Glue the sides to hold them together.
- Make four cassette walls using the same technique and join them together with more glue.
- You will now have a huge cube of audio cassettes.
- Get an electrician to place a bulb in the center of this cube and light it up to see it work.
- Use this lamp to decorate your coffee table or corners of your room.
Wine bottle candlestand
Things you will need: 1 wine bottle, glue to stick pieces together
Get started: Get a glass cutter to cut the glass bottle into half.
- Get the ends polished to smoothen the sharp edges so there is no risk of cuts and bruises.
- Stick the bottom of the wine bottle to the mouth.
- Let the glue dry. Place tea candles in the hollow space. Use it to decorate.
Fabric lights
Things you will need: An old transparent saree or dupatta, needle and thread, fairy lights
Get started: Cut the saree into long strips and stick up the two ends to make a tube-like fabric.
- Put fairy lights into this tube and tie the ends.
- Drape this tube around a curtain rod or hang it from the ceiling or coil it on a center piece or place it behind your couch.
Ribbon bottle planter
Things you will need: A bottle, some ribbon, glue
Get started: Apply glue on a bottle and drape the ribbon around it.
- Run your palm through the bottle to ensure that the ribbon is glued properly
- Put some flowers or a creeper in it. Place it on window sills or corners to decorate.
