What makes NYC such an inspiring canvas of street style — is its multi-cultural, cross-pollinated and timeless appeal. A collage of ideas, styles and sensibilities make it a veritable cultural cauldron which never fails to inspire.

While one usually associates the city’s fall winter months with colour black, it’s never worn like a uniform. There’s a chicness about it and the style-savvy New Yorker enjoy playing with many textures and tones of noir. And of course, worth mentioning is New Yorker’s love for statement boots as one gets to see some of the coolest footwear brands in the city. Also, worth mentioning are excellent leather and fur pieces which are a synonym for NYC fall winter. Even 10 years later they continue to look fantastic.

Girls in the city love their power blow-dry though it’s a different blow-dried hair which looks impossibly chic. Also, their make-up is never OTT and always understated. Another highlight of the city is the incredible street style of working women who know their brands and like to create their own individual looks. They do toy with bling albeit with a hint of sophistication. Men too are impeccably fit and pay special attention to their hair and grooming. From their ties and socks to sharply cut suits — they are always on trend.

Scatter my ashes at Bergdorf’s

Bergdorf has a special place in my heart and shopping here is always the high-point of my trips. You can never go wrong here as the personal shoppers are always of-the-moment and the store retails exclusive merchandise. The beauty level here is a little piece of heaven.

An air of Laidback chic

The city emanates an air of laidback cool and understated luxury which is always a turn-on for me. Nothing is ever over the top. Even when Hollywood stars are here, they are always in a chilled out mode. No one is judging you. I love walking its tony lanes and love the fact that one is able to walk 100 blocks everyday. You peek into the details, absorb every detail while walking the streets.

Upper East Side vs Soho

What makes NYC an interesting street style is how stunningly two distinctive cultures complement each other. The grunge and bohemian vibe of Soho has a beautiful conversation with Upper East Side’s upscale and polished. While in Soho one sees youngsters in cool track-pants and au courant racer-backs, Upper East side is rather dressy and well-nuanced. It’s not uncommon to spot impeccably dressed grandparents catching up with their grandkids at Madison Avenue or bonding over the arts at MoMA.
