Ahead of Comic Con Mumbai, enthusiasts look forward to a workshop for making their own comics

If you grew up reading comic books, then chances are that you either secretly or openly harboured a desire to create your own comic series someday. But where do you learn the know-how of the creation of this art? Fret not. Comic Con India is back with the Mumbai Film and Comic Con which will take place next month, and in order to whet the appetite of comic lovers, they have organised two workshops in the city, conducted by experts from the Indian comics industry to give you a bird’s eye view on the art of comic creation.

The first workshop will be conducted today by Vivek Goel, founder and lead artist, Holy Cow Entertainment, will take you through the process of creation of the Aghori series. “I will be taking the participants through my work, and will take them through the process of creation of the Aghori series Issue 12, which will be launched next month. I will explain the whole process right from the feed of the idea, discussion with designers, synopsis, essaying, breaking down of the script, adding digital effects, etc. till the final stage which is the preparing the lettering of the cover. This workshop will be an entertaining as well as an educational one for people of all age groups including aspiring writers, designers, writers, people who make sketches, etc.,” informs Goel. There will also be a Q&A session as people have lots of questions especially like how to break into the profession, whom to get in touch with, commercial viability, etc.

The second workshop will be conducted tomorrow by Abhijeet Kini, creator of the popular Angry Maushi comics, and who has also worked for Tinkle. “This workshop is a great place to meet comic lovers, artists and even publishers. Here you get feedback on your work. People are curious and it’s always a pleasure to talk about my work, so they get an idea of how comics are created. It seems simple but mind you it’s not easy. People think creating comics is child’s play. I will running a slideshow showcasing my work, and explain the process of creating comics,” says Kini.
