Christie’s, a leading Auction House, in association with Avid Learning is bringing to Mumbai a special workshop at Good Earth that will share knowledge on art collecting. Titled Collecting Art: A Brush with Immortality, the workshop is a first-of-it’s-kind in India.  It will feature a presentation on art trends, basics of collecting art, understanding art for aesthetic value or as an investment, and even maintanence of art. Paul Hewitt, Managing Director, Growth Markets for Christie’s from London, will conduct the interaction and share his knowledge.

Joining Paul will be Christie’s India head, Menaka Kumari-Shah, who will give her first-hand perspective on the growing Indian art market and the evaluation of Indian Art on the global stage. Karanjeet Kaur, Time Out India’s Assistant Editor and in-house art aficionado, will mediate the evening.

Asad Lalljee, CEO Avid Learning says, “This will be a very basic workshop, and it can be a refresher for those who are already tuned into the world of art collection, as well as provide useful insights for people who are interested and need to learn the basics. The session is not very intense, so at the end we will provide additional resources for those who want to learn more — websites, books and articles. In the future we plan to hold a more advanced level as well.”

He explains that the evening will only touch upon basics, and is just a starting point of learning. “We hope that through this workshop and more like this, we can help educate people and enhance their abilities to make informed decisions about art.”
